Wedding Flower Alternatives

Unique wedding ideas that last for a lifetime.

According to The Bridal Association of America, the average cost of wedding flowers (bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages and flower girl flowers) is $698. This can be signifigantly decreased by using a combination of the following tips.

Consider using silk or paper wedding flowers as an alternative or in conjunction with live flowers. Paper flowers can be nearly indistinguishable from live flowers. Not only are they beautiful but they are allergen free, last forever, and are never out of season. Paper flowers can be purchased online (pre-arranged or individual) in any color or made yourself with a little practice. If you are interested in making your own paper flowers there are many online tutorials and books on the subject. When creating your own flowers be sure to start early and create manageable weekly goals for yourself. It takes some time and patience but the savings are substantial.

When shopping for live flowers be sure to check your local Saturday markets and wholesalers for terrific savings from local nurseries. It's also less expensive to choose flowers that are in season and readily available during your wedding. The cost of flowers varries greatly around certain holidays so plan your date accordingly. When choosing your venue you can pick locations that already have flowers (parks, gardens, etc) or that will be decorated for the holidays to cut down on your flower budget.

It's also possible to rent potted plants and the cost is usually less than that of flower arangements. Consider purchasing potted plants which you can then use in your own home or give to guests as mementos.
